Halton Borough Council is seeking a dynamic and reliable Refuse Collection Operative to help keep our community clean and safe every day. This is your opportunity to be an essential part of our team-ensuring that homes and businesses enjoy efficient, secure, and environmentally responsible waste management. Please note, this role is on a casual basis.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Efficient Waste Collection: Safely collect domestic and commercial refuse-whether bagged or containerised-ensuring each pickup adheres to our streamlined procedures.
  • Team Support: Work alongside Drivers, Chargehands, Supervisors, and Managers to complete daily tasks to the highest standards.
  • Safety in Action: Operate bin lifting equipment and related machinery with full knowledge of safety protocols, always in line with the Council's health and safety policies.
  • Quality Service: Return waste receptacles to their designated locations, deliver replacement refuse sacks, and secure bin cupboards and storage areas during your rounds.
  • On-the-Spot Problem Solving: Swiftly clean up any spillages encountered and report any damaged bins or missed collections, ensuring our service remains seamless and safe.
  • Precision Assistance: Act as a banksman when needed, providing clear signals during vehicle manoeuvres in tight spaces, and communicating load details to help maintain legal weight limits.
  • Professional Presentation: Wear your provided uniform and PPE at all times, reinforcing our commitment to a safe and professional working environment.
  • Continuous Improvement: Occasionally assist with training new colleagues and take on additional tasks that support the overall mission of our team.

What We're Looking For

  • Clear Driving Credentials: A valid, clean driving licence is essential.
  • Experience & Knowledge: Previous involvement in waste-related activities is advantageous, and familiarity with waste collection practices is preferable.
  • Excellent Communication: Strong written and verbal English skills to interact courteously with the public and team members alike.
  • Resilience: A willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions and the physical ability to handle demanding tasks, including lifting up to 25kg.
  • Dedication to Safety: A proactive attitude toward health and safety, with an unwavering commitment to aid in safeguarding the welfare of children, young people, and adults.
