Principal Planning Policy Officer

Salary: £22.20 - £23.92 per hour
Location: Halton

 

Halton's Planning Policy Team is looking for a motivated and experienced RTPI-qualified Principal Planning Policy Officer to join its dedicated team.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role within a small and collaborative Planning Policy team, helping to shape the future growth and development of the borough.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the Council's lead adviser on planning policy matters, delivering key objectives and work programmes.
  • Supervise and support Planning Policy Officers, providing guidance and allocating workloads.
  • Lead multidisciplinary projects with support from the Lead Planning Policy Officer.
  • Prepare and maintain Local Plan site assessments and supporting evidence.
  • Apply NPPF and PPG guidance to develop, monitor, and review Local Plans.
  • Commission and undertake research to inform planning policy and strategy.
  • Engage with internal teams, partners, residents, and stakeholders throughout policy development.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor planning strategies, policies, and action plans.

About you:

  • An RTPI-accredited Planning Degree and MRTPI membership.
  • Proven experience delivering Local Plans from conception to adoption.
  • A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
  • Strong knowledge of planning legislation, policy, and procedures.
  • Excellent research, analytical, and report-writing skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly.
  • Experience engaging with communities and stakeholders to inform planning policy.
  • Strong project management, organisational, and workload management skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a commitment to continuous professional development and supporting colleagues.
