We are now seeking a highly motivated Lawyer - Adults Services to join our Legal Services Directorate on an initial 6-month contract. This is a fantastic opportunity for a qualified legal professional to work in a high-impact area supporting adult social care and safeguarding outcomes.
About the Role
As part of the Legal Services Directorate, you will provide expert legal and procedural advice across all Council functions, focusing on Adults Services. Your role will include a mix of litigation, advocacy, legal advice, and training. You will play an instrumental part in ensuring the service remains high-quality, client-focused, and responsive to evolving legal and policy developments.
Key Responsibilities
Provide legal advice and representation on matters related to adult social care and safeguarding
Conduct advocacy and litigation in civil and criminal proceedings, tribunals, and statutory appeals
Support Council Boards, Committees, and Panels with legal and procedural guidance
Collaborate with internal clients and external partners to deliver effective legal solutions
Deliver training sessions and contribute to the development of legal practice standards
Monitor legislative developments and their impact on service delivery
Maintain accurate legal records and ensure compliance with corporate practices and standards
About You
You will be a qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Chartered Legal Executive with:
Experience in adult social care law or a strong interest in developing this specialism
Ideally, experience within a local authority or similar public sector setting
Excellent drafting, negotiation, and advocacy skills
A proactive, collaborative approach and the ability to work under pressure
Strong relationship-building and communication skills
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office or equivalent systems (e.g. G Suite, Mosaic)
A valid driving licence and access to a vehicle for travel within and outside the borough
