Community Centre Assistant
Do you thrive in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment? We're on the lookout for a welcoming and proactive Customer Service Assistant to join our team and help create a friendly, professional, and efficient atmosphere across both our reception and café areas.
Reporting to the Facility Manager, you'll be the face of our centre - greeting visitors, handling enquiries, supporting café operations, and helping ensure our customers enjoy an outstanding experience from the moment they walk through the door.
Main Responsibilities:
- Deliver excellent customer service in person, over the phone, via email, and through online enquiries.
- Operate the centre's computerised systems for sales, bookings, promotions, and customer data, in compliance with the Data Protection Act.
- Support both reception and café functions, ensuring these areas remain tidy, welcoming, and efficiently run.
- Handle transactions accurately, manage the till float, and follow cashing-up procedures.
- Monitor admissions of unaccompanied children under 8 and ensure access restrictions are enforced where applicable.
- Respond to membership enquiries warmly and helpfully, providing accurate information and making everyone feel valued.
- Prepare and serve food and drink in line with Food Standards Agency (FSA) regulations, supporting a healthy and nutritional offering.
- Operate the PA system and assist with general clerical tasks, including managing lost property.
- Work as part of a friendly, cooperative team, supporting colleagues and maintaining excellent communication throughout the centre.
- Actively promote centre services and offerings through upselling and data capture to maximise participation.

Essential:
- A positive, approachable manner and a passion for great customer service
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Accuracy and attention to detail when handling payments and bookings
- Flexibility to support both reception and café duties
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and manage multiple tasks effectively
Desirable:
- Previous experience in a similar customer-facing or hospitality role
- Basic food hygiene knowledge or willingness to undergo training
- Familiarity with reception or point-of-sale systems
